Dear Flash Fiction Writer,

There is a hallowed degree in creative writing called the MFA, which stands for Master of Fine Arts. It’s a graduate-level degree that focuses on the practical and artistic aspects of writing with concentrations in areas like fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction.

To get an MFA these days tends to cost a lot of money, and most programs offer few flash fiction courses (let us posit that flash fiction is often diminished in importance in the MFA’s hefty programs, perhaps because of its size).

We are not an academic institution like, say, the revered Iowa Writers Workshop. But we do provide high-quality instruction in the art of writing flash fiction, and we’d like to make sure that writers can have goals with their flash fiction courses and be recognized for their studies and achievements.

That’s why we’re going to offer our own Master of Fine Arts—or Master of Flash Arts, rather. That’s right: we’re going to create a “degree” program that will consist of seven courses.
